Ring Finds $28M For Smart Doorbell
Los Angeles-based Ring, the smart doorbell startup led by Jamie Siminoff, said today that it has raised $28M in a new funding round. The new funding came from Richard Branson, Shea Ventures, American Family Insurance, True Ventures, and Upfront Ventures, along with other, un-named angels. Ring--formerly known as Doorbot--develops a replacement doorbell which includes a built in video camera, connects to a users' smart phone, and also includes other connected features.

Yardi Buys MCEnergy
Santa Barbara-based real estate mannagement software developer Yardi announced this morning that it has acquired MCEnergy, a developer of energy management software. Financial terms of the buy were not announced. Yardi said the acquisition will help it expand into the energy area. MCEnergy develops energy information and procurement software, helping property managers track energy, environmental, and sustainability data. MCEnergy was based in Valhalla, NY.

TP-LINK Behind New Google Wi-Fi Router
San Dimas-based TP-LINK, the Southern California networking products maker, is behind the launch of the new, Google OnHub Wi-Fi router this morning--Google's answer to difficult to use, Wi-Fi equipment. Google and TP-LINK said this morning that its new OnHub device is managed by a mobile app developed by the two companies, and is designed to sit out in the open to provide fast Wi-Fi connections, and features a circular antenna design and software to optimize Wi-Fi connections. The Retail Equation Acquired By Appriss
Irvine-based The Retail Equation, a venture-backed startup developing tools used for retail analytics and predictive modeling, has been acquired by Appriss, a provider of data, risk, and analytics software Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed. The Retail Equation was owned by Norwest Venture Partners. According to Appriss, Norwest will continue to support the company by investing the proceeds of the sale into the new, combined entity. Guidance Software Funds Data Security Program At Caltech
Pasadena-based Guidance Software, which makes computer forensics and digital investigation software, said today that it has funded a data security research program at the Caltech Institute of Technology (Caltech). Guidance Software did not say how much it is investing in the program, aimed at advancing cybersecurity incident response. The joint program will come out of Caltech's Center for Data-driven Discovery, led by Julian Bunn and Professor Emeritus Mani Chandy.

Belkin Rolls Out Combo Travel Charger, Battery
Playa Vista-based consumer electronics company Belkin is taking aim at the frequent traveler, with its latest product. Belkin said today that it has launched the Travel Rockstar Battery Pack + Charger + Surge, a device which includes not only a big battery pack, but also a surge protector and two AC outlets, plus a USB charging port. The new device features a 3000 mAh battery pack and support for up to 2A of USB charging. Belkin said the new product will retail for around $59.99.
