Patrick Soon-Shiong Eyes LA Times, Says Report
Patrick Soon-Shiong, the biotech billionaire behind LA's NantWorks family of companies, is reportedly eyeing a bid for the LA Times.According to the San Fernando Valley Business Journal, Soon-Shiong is "seriously considering" acquiring the long suffering Los Angeles newspaper, which recently had a very visible fallout between CEO and publisher Austin Beutner and parent company Tribune Publishing Co.

FreedomPop Launches Free Mobile Service In the UK
Los Angeles-based free mobile broadband provider FreedomPop has officially opened up service in the UK today, offering up UK residents 200MB of data, 200 minutes of calls, and 200 text messages a month for free. Brain Corporation Launches Robotics OS
San Diego-based Brain Corporation said today that it has launched a new, software operating system aimed at robot application development. Aerovironment Passed Over For DARPA Project
Simi Valley-based unmanned aerial vehicle developer Aerovironment said Tuesday that the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), has decided not to go forward with a Phase III contract with the company. According to Aerovironment, DARPA, which had funded both a Phase I and II program to develop an unmanned aircraft system, did not select the company for the Phase III contract as part of the DARPA Tern program.
