How Helpr Wants To Bring On-Demand To Babysitting
There's a large number of on-demand services which have been appearing recently, to help people deal with almost every aspect of their life. One of the latest is Los Angeles-based Helpr (www.helpr-app.com), which recently launched to help parents find babysitters for their children. SpaceX Conducts Capsule Landing Tests
NASA said late last week that Hawthorne-based space rocket firm SpaceX has tested its ability to land its astronaut landing pod, the SuperDraco, by firing landing engines. NASA said the tethered testing--conducted in McGregor, Texas--is aimed at bringing astronauts back to space with as much accuracy as landing a helicopter. NASA said that the testing is aimed at helping engineers refine landing software and systems on the spacecraft. NASA is not currently planning on using the rocket landing -- (More info...)

NantWorks Details "Cancer Moonshot"
Culver City-based NantWorks, and founder Patrick Soon-Shiong, M.D., have detailed efforts on the company's Cancer MoonShot 2020 Program, to help make a huge step in the treatment of cancer. GoFundMe Dangles $10,000 To Help Raise Money For Flint Water Crisis Victims
San Diego-based online crowd funding site GoFundMe has launched a contest to raise money for victims of the Flint, Michigan water crisis, saying it will give the GoFundMe campaign that raises the most money by Friday to help victims of the crisis an additional $10,000 from the company. IDrive Targets VMware Backup Market
Los Angeles-based online backup service IDrive Online Backup has launched a new backup offering, aimed at companies running VMware installations. According to IDrive, its new VMware Backup produt is aimed at securing virtualized environments, supporting VMware ESXi 5.5 and 6.0 and Vcenter. The company said the backup service supports both incremental and scheduled backup of virtual machines.

Western Digital, IBM In Patent Deal
Irvine-based storage giant Western Digital and IBM said this morning that the two companies are in a patent acquisition and licensing deal, where WD will acquire more than 100 patent assets from IBM, and where the two will cross-license a number of patents. Financial details of the deal were not announced. According to the two, WD has acquired patents in the areas of distributed storage, object storage, and emerging non-volatile memory.
