Amgen Backs New $315M Life Sciences Fund
Thousand Oaks-based Amgen has helped to back a new, life sciences fund, managed by San Francisco-based venBio, as an anchor supporter of a new fund. venBio said Friday that it has closed a $315M life sciences fund, venBio Global Strategic Fund II, which was anchored by Amgen, Merck, and Baxalta, and also included other Limited Partners. venBio did not say how much Amgen committed to the fund, which is venBio's second life sciences fund. venBio is focused on funding medicines and technologies wi (More info...)

360fly Raises $40M For 360 Degree Camera
Aliso Viejo-based 360fly, which develops a single lens, 360-degree video camera, has raised $40M in a Series C funding, the company said Thursday. The funding was led by L Catterton, Hydra Ventures, and Qualcomm Ventures in the funding. Hydra Ventures is the venture capital arm of adidas Group. j2 Global Has $200M Quarter
Los Angeles-based j2 Global, which owns a wide range of cloud-based businesses, ranging from Internet fax, to email, to online backup and unified communications services--in addition to owning online publishing businesses such as Ziff Davis, IGN, and AskMen--has just passed up the $200M mark in quarterly revenues. j2 Global said it had $201M in first quarter revenues, which was up 24.3 percent versus Q1 of 2015. Los Angeles-based, digital media brand mitu said this week that it is launching a new, voter registration initiative, which will look go register one million, Latino millennials to vote by October. The Alfred Mann Foundation Names Chief Medical OFficer
The Alfred Mann Foundation for Scientific Research (AMF), which is focused on innovation in medical technology, said Thursday that it has named Eric Grigsby, MD, MBA, as Chief Medical Officer of the nonprofit. Grigsby was formerly President and CEO of Neurvations, and was founder and Medical Director of the Napa Pain Institute.
