Santa Monica-based salary comparison startup Comparably, which is led by startup veteran Jasaon Nazar, has run a survey of over 10,000 technology employers, to help break down some information about the pay gap between men and women. Exactly Expands To Silicon Beach, Backed By $4.6M
A new, mobile app startup, Exactly--which is about to launch a mobile messaging and networking app aimed at Millenials--said it has set up shop in Silicon Beach, backed by $4.6M in funding. The company said the expansion comes due to the hiring of a new CEO, SoCal startup vet Jay Goss, to lead the company. Goss has previously helped to run such companies as Numedeon, EternalSpace, Mogreet, RxVantage, Kumba Health and ExecuSurv, and also was an executive at Disney. Mucker Capital Backs Ascend Consumer Finance
Los Angeles-based venture investor Mucker Capital is one of the backers of fintech startup Ascend Consumer Finance, as part of a $11M funding round. Ascend said it raised $11M in follow on funding, which included OCA Ventures, Partech Ventures, Tekton Ventures, Cendana Investments LP, and the venture-focused subsidiary of Securian Financial Group, along with the Financial Solutions Lab. Ascend is based in San Francisco, and is also backed by JPMorgan Chase & Co.

Lynda.com's Parent Company, LinkedIn, Acquired By Microsoft
LinkedIn, the owner of Southern California's Lynda.com, is being acquired by Microsoft is a giant, $26.2 billion, all-cash deal, LinkedIn and Microsoft said this morning. According to the companies, Microsoft will pay $196 per share in cash for LinkedIn. LinkedIn bought Goleta-based Lynda.com in April of last year, paying $1.5 billion for Lynda.com. It's unclear how the giant acquisition by Microsoft will affect Lynda.com's operations in Southern California.

The Virtual Reality Company Finds $23M
Los Angeles-based The Virtual Reality Company, the startup which is developing a virtual reality version of The Martian, has raised $23M in a funding round, according to the company. The funding came from Hengxin Mobile Business Co, Ltd, and also included Metallica lead singer James Hetfield, Rothenberg Ventures, and Elementum Ventures. AiVita Biomedical Gets $2M
Irvine-based AiVita Biomedical, a biopharmaceuticals company focused on regenerative medicine, has raised $2M in a Series A financing. The funding came from California Technology Ventures. As part of the funding, Alex Suh of CTV will join the company's board of directors. AiVita Biomedical is led by Dr. Hans Keirstead, and is focused on stem cell-based skin care product which helps address several signs of aging, and a novel cancer immunotherapy applicable to multiple solid tumor types. TP-LINK Debuts New Tri-Band Wi-Fi Router
San Dimas-based wireless router maker TP-LINK has rolled out a new, tri-band Wi-Fi router, called the Archer C5400, the company said this morning. According to TP-LINK, the new router is aimed at the online gaming market, allowing avid gamers to stream 4K video content and games at the fastest available Wi-Fi speeds. Masimo Receives Clearance On New Regional Oximiter
Irvine-based Masimo reports this morning that it has received FDA 510(k) clearance on a new device, its O3 regional oximetry device.The company said the device helps clinicians monitor cerebral oxygenation in situations in which pulse oximetry alone may not be fully indicative of the oxygen in the brain due to various factors, such as the type of clinical procedure being performed. The new device uses near-infrared specscopy (NIRS) for measuring oxygen saturation in the brain.
