Firefly Games Gets $10M
Los Angeles- and Shanghai-based Firefly Games, a mobile gaming startup which is porting Asian titles into the U.S., has raised $10M more in funding, the company disclosed last week. The funding came from Skyocean International Holdings, Ceyuan Ventures, and GuangZhou WinHi. Firefly Games is led by Michael Zhang. The funding reportly values the company at $100M.

Three LA Companies Pursuing Gawker Media
Three, Los Angeles area media companies--Univision, Ziff Davis (a unit of J2 Global) and Penske Media--have all been named as possible bidders on bankrupt, Silicon Valley publication Gawker Media, according to reports today, which say Ziff Davis has submitted a $90M bid for the company. Gawker--which was sent into bankruptcy by an invasion-of-privacy lawsuit by Hulk Hogan, which was funded by Silicon Valley billionaire Peter Thiel--started taking bankruptcy bids this morning. SpaceX Succesfully Launches, Recovers Another Rocket
Hawthorne-based SpaceX has sent another commercial communications satellite to space, and successfully landed another Falcon 9 first stage on a drone ship on Sunday, adding to the company's growing list of successful missions to space. SpaceX launched its JCSAT-16 mission from Cape Canaveral at 1:26AM EDT on Sunday, August 14th, delivering a commercial communications satellite for SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation, to a Geostationary Transfer Orbit (GTO). Airpush Adds Device Awareness, Targeting To Mobile Ads
Los Angeles-based mobile ad network operator Airpush is adding mobile device targeting and detection to its ad network, in a partnership with ad technology provider Afilias, the two said this morning. Syncromatics Buys Mobilitat
Los Angeles-based Syncromatics, a developer of transportation tracking and dispatch software, said this morning that it has acquired Mobilitat, a developer of dispatch and scheduling software for the public transportation market. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Mobilitat was based in Wyoming, where it will continue to have offices. Synchromatics is led by Ian Sephton. Clearlake Capital Sells NetMotion Wireless
Santa Monica-based private equity investor Clearlake Capital Group announced this morning that it has sold Netmotion Wireless, a developer of mobile security software, to The Carlyle Group. Financial terms of the sale was not announced. Clearlake Capital acquired NetMotion Wireless back in 2012. Arena Pharmaceuticals Names Business Head
San Diego-based Arena Pharmaceuticals announced this morning that it has named Vincent Aurentz as its new Executive Vice President and Chief Business Officer. The developer of small molecule drugs, with potential treatments for ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, and pulmonary arterial hypertension, said Aurentz joins from Epirus Biopharmaceuticals, where he was Chief Business Officer. He also has served at HemoShear Therapeutics, Merck KGaA, Quintiles, and Andersen Consulting (now Accenture).
