Hyperloop One Gains $50M In New Funding
Los Angeles-based transportation technology developer HyperLoop One disclosed on Thursday afternoon that it has raised $50M in new funding, from DP World Group of Dubai. The startup--which is attempting to bring Elon Musk's idea for the "Hyperloop" system to life, said it has added a representative from DP World Group to its board. Hyperloop One had announced a deal in August to help move containers from ships at sea to a new inland port in Dubai.

Soylent Recalls New Soylent Bar
In an inauspicious start for the newest product from Los Angeles-based alternative food startup Soylent, the company said last night that it is recalling all of its new "Soylent Bar" products, and asking its customers to "discard any remaining bars in their possession". The company said the recall comes after a "small number" of its customers have "experienced gastrointestinal issues" after consuming the bar. Soylent just launched the new product a month ago. Facebook, Google Connect LA, Hong Kong Via Undersea Ultra-High Speed Cable
Facebook, Google, and telecom and undersea infrastructure developer TE SubCom and PLDC (Pacific Light Data Communication Co. Ltd.) said on Wednesday that they are teaming up to build a 12,800 km, transpacific submarine cable system. According to the companies, the low latency route will connect Hong Kong and Los Angeles, with ultra-high capacity transmissions speeds, the very first direct between LA and Hong Kong. Esri, Waze Partner On Traffic Data
Redlands-based mapping software developer Esri, and traffic and navigation app developer Waze--which is owned by Google--said on Wednesday that they are in a new partnership to allow government municipalities to access Waze's traffic data. The two said the partnership will allow governments using Esri's ArcGIS platform to access free, traffic information through the Waze Connected Citizens Program. Social Reality Moves To NASDAQ
Los Angeles-based Internet advertising firm Social Reality, which develops software for automating real time bidding (RTB) advertising, is moving to the NASDAQ Capital Market this morning. Yardi In Major UK Expansion, Hires Team Wholesale
Santa Barbara-based property management software developer Yardi is in a major expansion in the United Kingdom, saying late Wednesday evening that it has named four executives at Yardi Systems Limited.
