Qualcomm Calls Apple Suit 'Baseless'
San Diego-based Qualcomm responded late Friday to the $1 billion lawsuit by Apple, calling Apple's claims "baseless" and saying that Apple has "intentionally mischaracterized our agreements and negotiations". Qualcomm also said that Apple has been " actively encouraging regulatory attacks" on the company in various jurisdictions around the world, by "misrepresenting facts and withholding information". Qualcomm Sued For $1 Billion By Apple
San Diego-based Qualcomm is being sued by Apple in a $1 billion lawsuit, alleging that Qualcomm has been charging the company unfair royalties. Apple said in a statement that Qualcomm has insited on charging Apple "at least five times more in payments than all the other cellular patent licensors we have agreements with combined", and that the firm had recently withheld nearly $1B in payments from Apple as "retaliation" to responding to law enforcement officials investigating Qualcomm. Tribute To Caltech's Larry Gilbert, Founder of Tech Transfer Office
Larry Gilbert, the founder of the technology transfer program at Caltech, passed away in November in Florida, Caltech said this week, with a tribute to Gilbert's efforts at the school. Gilbert was the "founding father of technology transfer" at Caltech, according to the school, forming the Office of Technology Transfer in 1995. Skyworks Sees Better Than Expected Quarterly Results
Irvine-based Skyworks Solutions, which develops analog semiconductors for the wireless and other markets, said late Thursday that it has seen better than expected, Q1 FY17 results. The publicly traded semiconductor maker said it saw revenues for the first quarter of $914.3M, versus an earlier expected estimate of $902.7M. Revenues were up 9.4 percent quarter to quarter. Cubic Names New Board Member
San Diego-based Cubic Corporation, a systems integrator in the transportation, defense, training, and other sectors, said on Thursday that it has nominated Maureen Breakiron-Evans for its board of directors. Breakiron-Evans is the former CFO of Towers Perrin, and also was VP and General Auditor of CIGNA Corporation. Perrin also served at Inovant LLC, VISA's technology development company.
