Friday, April 7, 2017NVCA: Venture Investments Drop In Q1Venture capital investments in the U.S. have dropped to the lowest rate of activity since Q4 of 2011, as venture capital investors continue to be shy about investing in startups, according to the latest PitchBook-NVCA Venture Monitor report. According to the report, there was $16.5 billion deployed to 1,797 companies nationaly in the first quarter of the year. Broadcom, Qualcomm Among Happiest Tech Companies, Says ReportA new report, created by Irvine-based online career community CareerBliss, says that two of Southern California's biggest tech employers--Broadcom and Qualcomm, are among the top happiest tech companies in the USA. TP-Link Ties Into Amazon AlexaBrea-based TP-Link, which develops both networking products as well as a line of connected, color-changing light bulbs, said it has tied its TP-Link Smart Bulb line into Amazon Alexa. According to TO-Link, consumers can now control the color and white-tuning features of those bulbs via new smart home skill, "TP-Link Kasa". Rubicon Project Plans Video Header Bidding Rollout In Q2Los Angeles-based online advertising exchange operator Rubicon Project said on Thursday that it plans to roll out its new video header bidding offering, FastLane for Video, in the second quarter. The company said the plan comes after what it called "early success" in beta testing with multiple video publishers. The company claimed "double-digit" percent CPM rate increases among its beta publishers for the tool.

Qantas Debuts First ViaSat Powered Wi-Fi FlightCarlsbad-based ViaSat said this morning that it is powering the new gate-to-gate, in-flight Wi-Fi service for Qantas, in a partnership with Australian broadband network provider nbn. Qantas announced its new in-flight Wi-Fi service this morning on its first, domestic Boeing 737-800 aircraft. The single plane is a beta test for production rollout on that aircraft, and eventually, wider rollout to its fleet.
