Upfront, Rincon Back Qordoba
Two, Los Angeles-based venture capital investors have backed a developer of machine learning software, Qordoba, in its first investment funding round. Qordoba said the $5M funding came from Upfront Ventures and Rincon Venture Partners, with both Upfront Ventures' Kara Nortman and Rincon's Jim Andelman joining the company's board. Qordoba's machine learning software is used by such clients as Sophora, Cartier, Nutanix, and Netskope for language localization. Qordoba is based in San Francisco.

Miramar Venture Partners Backs eRelevance
Corona del Mar-based Miramar Venture Partners is one of the backers in marketing automation software developer eRelevance, in a $5.1M funding round. eRelevance, which is based in Austin, Texas, said the round was led by Rally Ventures and also included Chicago Ventures, Miramar Venture Partners, Martin Investment Holdings and Capital Factory.

Dell Technologies Capital Now A Backer Of Cylance
Dell Technologies Capital, a new venture investment fund announced at Dell EMC World on Monday, says it is an investor in Irvine-based Cylance, according to the fund's new website. Dell Technologies Capital--which will conduct venture investments for Dell Technologies as well as its other related businesses--said it will invest $100M annually in startups. Kingston Expands Embedded Efforts
Fountain Valley-based flash memory manufacturer Kingston Digital anounced Tuesday morning that it is expanding its efforts to reach the embedded solutions market, and has signed up a new manufacturer's representation in the Midwest. Kingston said it has selected Mel Foster Company as its select manufacturer's representative in the Midwest region of the United States. Kingston's embedded storage goes into smartphones and tablets, among other applications.

AeroVironment Unveils Stealthy, Palm-Sized Drone
Monrovia, California-based AeroVironment has unveiled a new, palm-sized drone today, aimed at the military, called the Snipe. The Snipe--which it says can be worn on a uniform and is used for close-range intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR)--is an ultra-miniature quadcopter, and which it says it is already delivering to an un-named, U.S. government customer. Signal Sciences Secures $15M
Venice, California-based Signal Sciences announced this morning that it has raised $15M in a Series B funding round and launched its web protection platform. The funding was led by CRV. Signal Sciences says it has launched the Signal Sciences Web Protection Platform (WPP), threat protection software which protects web applications, microservices, and APIs. The company said its platform was built by former engineers from Etsy. Andrew Peterson is CEO and Co-Founder of Signal Sciences.

Donut Media Raises $800K For Millennial Car Enthusiast Content
Los Angeles-based Donut Media, a startup generating social video content focused on car enthusiasts, announced this morning that it has raised $800,000 in a seed funding round. The funding came from Techstars Ventures, 3311 Ventures, Fontinalis Partners and professional driver Ryan Tuerck. The startup, led by CEO Matthew Levin, says it has created a process for creating highly shareable automotive social content. Takl Expands To San Diego
On-demand home services marketplace operator Takl said this morning that it has expanded in San Diego, its third major market in California. The company, which already serves Los Angeles, Sacramento, and the San Francisco Bay Area, helps connects users to service providers willing to provide a wide range of chores and tasks. The company says it has signked up more than 1,600 local providers in San Diego. Tackl is based in Nashville, Tennessee.
