Within Gets $40M For Virtual, Augmented Reality
Los Angeles-based Within, a distributor of virtual reality and augmented reality films, said Wednesday that it has raised $40M in a Series B funding round. The funding was led by Temasek and Emerson Collective, and also included WPP, Macro Ventures, Andreessen Horowitz, 21st Century Fox, and Raine Ventures. Within's CEO is Chris Milk. The company says its sister company is the VR production house Here Be Dragons.

Sienna Biopharmaceuticals Up In IPO
Westlake Village-based Sienna Biopharmaceuticals had its IPO this morning on the NASDAQ, and was up over 33 percent in morning trading on its first day trading as SNNA, trading at around $19.98. Sienna had priced its IPO on Wednesday night at $15.00 per share, selling 4,333,333 shares of its stock in its public offering. Digital Domain Launches VR Series, Monkey King
Playa Vista-based visual effects developer Digital Domain announced today that it has launched its first, cinematic virtual reality series, called "Monkey King", based upon the Chinese mythology character of the same name. According to Digital Domain, the new series is available on Sony Playstation VR, and brings the story of the Chinese character to life in an immersive experience. Atom Tickets Promotes New Gore Film, An Inconvenient Sequel
Los Angeles-based mobile ticketing firm Atom Tickets said this morning that it is teaming up with Paramount Pictures and Participant Media, to offer up its users a chance to see the new Al Gore film, "An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth To Power", at special public screenings. According to Atom Tickets, those screenings will feature a Q&A with former Vice President Al Gore about the state of the climate crisis, in addition to showing his new film.
