Nortel, Websense Team On Security

San Diego-based Websense and Nortel said this week that they are collaborating on a web content filtering solution for GSM/UMTS mobile handsets. The two firms have created a URL filtering and security solution that blocks malicious code and filters URLS from security, adult, and other undesirable content. The filtering technology is expected to be made available by the end of the year in Nortel's GSM/UMTS wireless packet core platform. The move comes as security researchers are increasingly focused on the vulnerability of mobile phone platforms to viruses and hacking. Last year, an anti-virus firm created a worm for phone devices running the Symbian operating system virus, and visibility was raised when hackers got access to Paris Hilton's Sidekick mobile phone and some compromising pictures.
