Novatel Wireless, the maker of the popular MiFi wireless hotspot devices, said today that it has launched a brand new software enhancement to its technology platform, which adds power management to the platform. The San Diego company said the new enhancements will let users on the devices stay connected longer, and also helps optimize download of data via a new content delivery optimization feature. The firm did not say when it expects those features to appear in its retail products.
Novatel claimed the new software enhancements allows users of its MiFi 2 to a usage time of more than 16 hours, up from a current elevn hours of usage time, without a recharge. The firm said the content delivery optimization (CDO) feature of its new software can accelerates download speeds by as much as 30%.
