Peregrine Semiconductor Powers LG's Optimus G Pro

San Diego-based semiconductor developer Peregine Semiconductor has cored a design win with LG Electronics, and is powering the antenna tuning design in the LG Optimus G Pro smartphone. According to Peregrine, its radio frequency integrated circuits (RFICs) are being used to optimize the performance of LG"s new phone, which was just introduced to the Korean market. Shipment volumes and financial impact of the win was not announced. Peregrine said its chips let the phone support the more than 40 frequency bands available with 4G LTE. Antenna tuning is one of the key parts of allowing a wireless antenna to work efficiently with specific transmission frequencies, and helps save power and improve signal quality in a cell phone.
