Southern California's Q2 Venture totals show that the number of venture investments in the area totaled $482.5M, and include 11 investments in April, 22 investments in May, and 9 investments in the month of June. The most active firms for the last three months were Mission Ventures and Domain Associates, with 4 deals each; followed by Redpoint Ventures, Palomar Ventures, and Menlo Ventures with 3 deals each. Investment deals were driven in a large part by biotech related investments, with the largest deals during the quarter mostly biotechnology related. The three largest deals for the quarter were all biotech deals, and included Somaxon ($65M), Phenomix ($40M), and Cylene ($26.3M).
