QAD Opens R&D Center in China

Carpinteria-based QAD announced yesterday that it has opened a new R&D center in Shanghai to support development of its MFG/PRO software applications. The company said that Hong Yuan will lead the company's operations in China as an engineering manager, and will hire up to 50 software engineers at the new facility by the end of 2005. QAD already has operations in Australia, Spain, India, and Ireland, in addition to its US workforce. The company cited the move by firms like Cisco, Siemens, Veritas, and Motorola to outsource their workforce to China as a reason for its choice, as well as access to local Chinese markets and customers. The company supplies a number of automotive suppliers in China. The company said that the center will not only produce products for the local Chinese market, but for its entire customer base.
