Qualcomm Acquires Iridigm for $170M

San Diego-based Qualcomm today announced that it is acquiring Iridigm Display Corporation for $170M in cash. Iridigm develops display technologies based on Micro-Electro-Mechanical (MEMS) structures and thin film optics. The company's iMoD technology is expected to provide better performance, power consumption, and cost benefits for mobile phones and other portable devices. Qualcomm said that displays based on the iMoD technology are brighter, can extend battery life, are easier to manufacture than LCD displays, and are more readable than existing display technology. Qualcomm already owned 14 percent of the Iridigm.
