Qualcomm Adds Assisted GPS Offering
San Diego-based Qualcomm has added a new, assisted-GPS offering to its lineup, as the firm focuses in on enabling location based service. The company said that its new BREW Locate Signature Solution provides assisted GPS for wireless operators looking to enable location-based services. Assisted GPS is the use of cell phone signal information from operators to reduce time-to-fix for GPS-enabled devices; assisted-GPS typically reduces the amount of time required significantly because an initial position is provided to the GPS hardware. Qualcomm said the new offering also includes a catalog of applications from publishers and developers and hosted content delivery services.
