Qualcomm Launches Low-Power Wi-Fi Chips For The Connected Home

San Diego-based Qualcomm is targeting the connected home and "internet of things" market today, with the launch of a new set of low-power, Wi-Fi chips. According to Qualcomm, its subsidiary, Qualcomm Atheros, has launched a new set of low-power, Wi-Fi chips specifically aimed at being included in major home appliances and consumer electronics. The firm said the chips are specifically targeted at washing machines, air conditioners, hot water heaters, consumer electronics, and home lighting, security and automation systems. The company reported it already has a win with Haier, the home appliance and consumer electronics firm, where it has been included in a washer/dryer combo and an air conditioner unit. Those appliances let users receive notifications and remotely control functions from the Internet.
