San Diego-based Qualcomm said it is taking on the capability of providing precise, indoor positioning with the release of a new platform. The firm said its Qualcomm IZat location platform, being developed by its subsidiary, Qualcomm Atheros, provides precise location for mobile phones, tablets, and network infrastructure, to within 3 to 5 meters inside buildlings. The company said that is up to 10 times greater accuracy than existing solutions. As part of the release of the new platform, Qualcomm also said it is working with Cisco on the indoor location technology, with ties into Cisco's enterprise wireless products.
