QUALCOMM, TeleCommunications Systems Partner On BREW

San Diego-based QUALCOMM and TeleCommunications Systems, Inc., a provider of wireless data communications products, said this week that the two are in an agreement to offer location services based on BREW and TCS' positioning server. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Under the agreement, QuALCOMM will have the ability to offer WCDMA operators a location service solution that uses TCS' Xypoint Secure User Plane For Location (SUPL) Server. That product is used for assited GPS, a technique that uses cell phone network location to increase the time-to-fix for GPS devices. A-GPS is being used in a number of GPS-enabled mobile devices to cut down on the time required for the hardware to determine where it is and to locate GPS satellites.
