San Diego-based Sequoia Communications announced this morning that it has shipped a single-chip, multi-mode RF transceiver. The company's new chip provides WCDMA, HSDPA, EDGE, GPRS, and GSM functionality. The company is looking to lower the cost and increase the battery life of 3G phones, by highly integrating RF functionality. The company said that it expects full production of the chip in the first half of 2006. Sequoia is backed by Cadence, Gabriel Venture Partners, Huntington Ventures, Motorola, Nokia Venture Partners, Tallwood, and Third Point Ventures.
