    SMC Networks Licenses WiFi Software

Irvine-based SMC Networks and SolutionInc Limited disclosed this morning that the two companies are in an OEM agreement, which will allow SMC Networks to embed a portion of SolutionInc's proprietary tunneling software technology into one of SMC's wireless cable modem gateways. The deal is targeted at the pay-per-use, public access hotspot market, and allows carriers to offer localized billing, splash pages, and business models independent of the network environment and infrastructure. SolutionInc's software allows property manager and ISPS to manage users with laptops to connect to the Internet from hotel rooms, convention centers, and Wi-Fi hot spots. SMC's equipment, the SMC8014WG-BIZ, is sold to cable operators who want to develop Internet hotspots. The new equipment will be available in July.
