Software Providers Create Linux Phone Design

Embedded Linux provider MontaVista Software, San Diego-based SKY MobileMedia, along with Bluefin Mobile and Digital Airways have teamed to create a Linux-based mobile phone platform. The companies demonstrated a integrated mobile phone solution this week running on the MontaVista embedded Linux operating system, with an integrated voice and data software stack. The companies said that they were targeting creating a common, flexible and open platform strategy for mobile phone manufacturers. The reference design combines Bluefin Mobile's hardware abstraction layer, SKY Mobilemedia's mobile applications engine, and Digital Airway's visual interface.
