Sources: Active Network In Major Layoff

San Diego-based sports registration service Active Network has laid off over 100 people, according to sources near the company. Active Network has been contacted, but has not yet responded to queries about the layoff. No details on the layoff have been announced by the privately held company, and the company had not yet filed a notice with the state of California's WARN system on any impending cuts. The move might send some shudders through San Diego's high tech community, given that Active Network's private equity owner--Vista Equity--recently moved two major employers out of the region to Texas, including moving former Qualcomm division, Omnitracs, to Austin with its 1,000 jobs just last week -- and moving another, San Diego technology company, Websense, and 445 jobs to Austin as well the week prior. Active Network had around 2,917 employees in 2012, before it went private in the acquisition by Vista Equity.
