Space Firm Expands In Southern California

Orbital, a Virginia-based manufacturer of small rockets and space systems for commercial, military and civil government customers, said this week that the firm is opening a new engineering and technology center in Los Angeles. The firm said that the new center is expected to initially employ 30 to 40 engineers, and will support the firm's Taurus II space launch vehicle and the company's missile defense efforts. The firm said that it has been considering a Los Angeles-area engineering office since it started development on its Taurus II rocket, citing the area's deep pool of talent. The new office will be in Huntington Beach, and is in addition to personnel in California at Vandenberg Air Force Base and NASA Ames.
