Startup Behind LAX Marriott's Robotic Butler Gets $15M From Intel, Google

The startup, which is behind the "robotic butler" that has been roaming the halls of the Marriott Los Angeles LAX/Century Boulevard has just scored $15M in a funding round, which includes Intel and Google. According to Savioke, a robotics startup which develops a robot aimed at the hospitality industry, it has just raised $15M in a Series A, which came from Intel Capital, EDBI, Northern Light Venture Capital, Morado Venture Partners, AME Cloud Ventures, and Google Ventures. The company recently deployed its first robot -- nicknamed "Wally"--at the Marriott, to deliver items to guests. The robot--no, despite the looks, that's not a Dalek--is designed to deliver toothpaste, shaving kits, coffee, and other items to guests, so that the hotel does not have to invest in staff to service its guests.
