Streamload Opens API, Targets Amazon S3
San Diego-based Streamload, a provider of online digital media storage services, announced today that it has opened up a new Web Service API to allow developers to tap into its storage services. Streamload's new Web Services, Storage and Processing Services (SPS) and Streamload Platform application programming interface (API) allow developers to use Streamload's platform to store content programmatically. The firm said that developers can use their service to offer customers the capability to share personal digital content from the Internet. The new service is priced at $.10 per GB of storage per month, and goes up against Amazon.com's S3 storage platform. Amazon has seen good traction from its own API and storage service, where it charges $0.15 per gigabyte of storage per month, along with a $0.20 per gigabyte data transfer charge. Both services are targeting web developers and startups with a way to tap into online storage without needing to maintain their own storage infrastructure.
