Teradata Buys Aster Data

Teradata, a developer of data warehousing and marketing management tools, said this morning it is acquiring Aster Data Systems, a provider of advanced analytics tools. Teradata, which already owns 11 percent of Aster Data Systems, said it will pay an additional $263M for the remaining ownership interest in Aster Data. The firm also said it expects to obtain approximately $21M in cash from Aster Data's balance sheet. Aster Data is venture backed by Sequoia Capital, Institutional Venture Partners, JAFCO Ventures, Cambrian Ventures, First Round Capital, David Cheriton, Rajeev Motwani, and Ron Conway. Teradata has offices in San Diego, and Aster Data Systems is based in San Carlos.
