textPlus Updates iPhone, Android Apps

Los Angeles-based textPlus, the free text messaging service which is operated by GOGII, has made a number of updates to both its iPhone and Android apps. The firm quietly made the updates over the past few weeks on both of its apps, adding such features as the ability to send 30-second voice notes to other app users; allowing users to manage their Facebook friends directly from the apps; and features to help find friends and invite them to connect. textPlus allows users to send text messages via both iPhone and Android, without having to maintain a texting plan through their phone carrier. The apps work by assigning a free phone number to users, which can be used for receiving text messages from others. GOGII is venture backed by Matrix Partners, GRP Partners, and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers iFund; the firm's founder, Scott Lahman, was a co-founder of JAMDAT Mobile.
