Thomson Hedges Bets, Supports HD-DVD and Blu-ray

Media giant Thomson announced today that it is supporting both next-generation DVD formats, and will manufacture both HD DVD and Blu-ray DVD disks through its Camarillo-based Technicolor business. The company also will market DVD players supporting the two formats through its THOMSON and RCA brands. The HD DVD disc standard is being championed by the DVD Forum, and is expected to be easier to manufacture due to its compatibility with existing DVD manufacturing equipment, and is supported by Paramount Pictures, Universal, New Line Cinema, and Warner Bros. Competing Blue-ray Disc Association just announced yesterday that it has added the Walt Disney Company to its roster of supports, which includes Sony, Dell, HP, and others.
