Newport Beach-based semiconductor foundry TowerJazz reported this morning that it has been awarded a multi-million dollar contract with the United States Air Force, and its Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Paterson Air Force Base (USAF/AFRL). TowerJazz said the five year, multi-million program will go towards improving its technology and manufacturing to support aerospace and defense customers, and specifically for a system for manufacturing Large Format Read Out Integrated Circuit (ROIC) products. Exactly size of the deal was not announced. TowerJazz said it manufacturers all of those products here on-shore--part of the company's roots at Rockwell International.
