Transphorm Adds Distributors For Power Electronics

Goleta-based gallium nitride (GaN) semiconductor developer Transphorm has added two new distributors, the company said this week, to carry its GaN power transistors and modules. Transphorm said it has added Rihardson Electronis and A/D Sales, to help extend channel support for its devices. Transphorm develops high efficiency power conversion devices, which are used for power inverters, power supplies, and other similar uses. The company said its devices provide over 99 percent efficiency. Traditional, switching power supplies generally have efficiency of between 70 and 90 percent; old fashioned, linear mode power supplies only had efficiency of 40 to 60%. Transphorm is venture backed by KKR, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Foundation Capital, Google Ventures, Soros Quantum Strategic Partners, INCJ, and Fujitsu.
