Transphorm Gets Strategic Funding, Japanese License Deal

Goleta-based Transphorm, which is developing Gallium Nitride-based power conversion devices, said Tuesday that it has inked a licensing deal with Japanese company Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd., along with a related investment. Transphorm said the deal includes 40 issued U.S. patents and another 110 Japanese patents, covering Furukawa's Gallium Nitride (GaN) power device portfolio. Financial details of the licensing deal were not disclosed. According to Transphorm, Furukawa has also made an equity investment in the company as part of the deal. Financial details of that investment were not announced. Transphorm is working on GaN semiconductors which are far more efficient that current, power conversion devices. More information »
