Typo Ordered To Pay $860K To BlackBerry
Los Angeles-based Typo, the startup backed by Ryan Seacrest, has been ordered to pay $860,000 to BlackBerry Ltd, for selling its iPhone case, which had been found likely to infringe on BlackBerry's patents. The fine came as a result of a ruling on Wednesday in San Francisco in the U.S. District court. BlackBerry had claimed that Typo had continued to sell and market its original, iPhone case--which duplicated the distinctive BlackBerry keyboard--even after a court injunction issued last year ordering Typo to stop selling its product. Typo's current product no longer has a distinctive, BlackBerry-style keyboard.
