Uber Retreats From Arizona In Self Driving Car Efforts

On-demand ride provider Uber is abandoning its efforts to test its self driving cars in Arizona, as the company continues to try to recover from the death of a pedestrian in the state in March. According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, Uber has reportedly laid off around 300 of its "test drivers" in Arizona. Uber's self driving testing had already been suspended in the aftermath of the death. The Wall Street Journal cited an internal memo from Uber's Advanced Technologies Group. Arizona had already suspended Uber's testing efforts in the state in the aftermath of the accident. Uber had moved its self driving cars to Arizona back in December of 2016, after California regulators had revoked Uber's licenses for its self driving vehicles after Uber refused to provide details on its testing and safety plans.
