UCLA, DaimlerChrysler Team On Fuel Cell Technology
The University of California Los Angeles and DaimlerChrysler said yesterday that the car maker has delivered two fuel cell vehicles to UCLA. DaimlerChrysler said that UCLA will use the vehicles to provide students with hands-on experience with fuel cell vehicles. DaimlerChrysler's F-Cell hydrogen vehicles will supply the company and the shcool with operational experience and technical data for improving next generation fuel cell vehicles. Fuel cell technology combines emissions-free energy through the reaction of hydrogen and oxygen, and is being touted as the next step in energy for powering cars and a potential solution for automobile pollution. The technology uses hydrogen and oxygen and emits water vapor as exhaust, but has so far been hampered by the difficulty of storing and transporting hydrogen, and the very high energy costs of hydrogen-based power.
