USC Gets $25M For Stem Cell Research
The University of Southern California has received a $25 million gift from the Broad Foundation, for the construction of a stem cell research institute on the University's Health Sciences campus. USC said yesterday that the Broad Foundation, founded by Eli and Edythe Broad, would give the gift for the construction of a 215,000 square foot facility for stem cell research and integrative biology. The new facility would make it the largest stem cell research center in California. Eli Broad said in a statement that the center will hopefully be the anchor of a new biomedical corridor in the region. The new stem cell center will be part of the Keck School of Medicine and be housed at USC's Health Sciences campus. The school also said that the team will include members from the California Insitute of Technology and other scientific institutions. Broad was the founder and chairman of AIG/SunAmerica and KB Home.
