Vativ Ships 10G Over Copper IC

San Diego-based Vativ has released a new, stacking IC with 10Gbps over copper support. The company, which is developing 10GbE-over-Copper Ethernet transceivers, said that the reduced-cost IC provides single chip, full-duplex operation over a CAT5e unshielded twisted-pair (UTP) cable. The new chip is targeted for use in Gigabit Ethernet switches, and can be used to implement a stacked Gigabit Ethernet switch using a ring or mesh architecture using CAT5e and standard RJ45 connectors. The new transceiver is a shorter reach version of its standard 10G over copper transceiver.
