Verge Genomics, Founded By UCLA Scientists, Raises $4M In Seed Funding

Verge Genomics, a biopharmaceuticals startup founded by scientists out of UCLA, said Tuesday that it has raised $4M in a seed financing round. The funding was led by IA Ventures, and also included Two Sigma Ventures, Draper Associates, Great Oaks VC, Slow Ventures, Karlin Venture, Elad Gil and David Lee. The company--based in San Francisco--said it is focused on accelerating drug development for neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's Disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), and Parkinson's Disease. The company's founders are Alice Zhang, a current 5th year MD/PhD candidate at UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, and Jason Chen, also a 5th year MD/PhD candidate at UCLA Geffen.
