Verizon Streams TV To Qualcomm Phones

Verizon Wireless and San Diego-based Qualcomm said yesterday that they have launched a nationwide service to stream real-time TV to Qualcomm phones. Verizon will launch MediaFLO, a multicasting network that allows CDMA2000-based phones to receive mobile TV coverage in the United States. Verizon said that it plans to offer mobile TV service to its subscribers where it holds licenses to the 700 MHz spectrum, starting in late 2006. Verizon is the first wireless carrier to offer a broadcast TV option for its network. Previously, wireless carriers have only offered short video clips; MediaFLO will be the first service to offer live television over cellular airwaves.
