    ViewSonic Shows IP-based Network Displays

Walnut-based ViewSonic said yesterday that it is showing new digital signage technology with IP-based network displays targeted at the retail space. Unlike traditional video screens, the company's new products can decode video directly over an IP connection. The company said that it is targeting applications such as airports, hotel lobbies, and retail stores who need stand-alone displays for advertising and information display. The new displays removes the need for a dedicated local PC or video converter box that is required with existing video screens. The screens can either pull video over an Ethernet or a built in 802.11b/g WiFi connection, and start at $799 for a complete LCD screen and bundled PC media adapter.
