Visual Sciences, NetRatings Settle Patent Lawsuits

San Diego-based Visual Sciences, an online provider of web analytics software, said today that it has settled patent litigation between the firm and NetRatings. The companies have been engaged in a patent lawsuit since February of 2006, over technology used in web analytics services. According to Visual Sciences, it will pay NetRatings $9.0M, and that the firms have engaged in a non-exclusive, worldwide license to patents owned by each party. The deal includes $2.0M on execution of the settlement, with the remainder paid out in $500K quarterly installments. Visual Sciences was formerly known as WebSideStory. The NetRatings lawsuit against Visual Sciences was one of several patent infringement suits filed by NetRatings against web analytics firms, which also included Coremetrics, Omniture, and SageMetrics.
