Vital Therapies Finds $8M

San Diego-based Vital Therapies said yesterday that it has closed an $8M round of venture funding from MedVenture Associates, with participation from Valley Ventures, Paragon Venture Partners, and Toucan Capital. The funding will be used for further clinical studies of its human liver cell-based therapy for patients with severe liver failure. Jan Barker of MedVenture Associates will join the board as a part of the funding, with Linda Power of Toucan joining as an observer. Robert Kibble of Mission Ventures and John S. Lewis of Pacific Venture Group left the board as part of a restructuring of the firm's board after the funding. More information »
