Vitesse Announces Ethernet Chip Line
Camarillo-based Vitesse Semiconductor has announced a new line of products focused on Ethernet connectivity today, saying that it has announced new fourth-generation, 10/100/1000M Ethernet MAC products. The firm, which develops high speed networking components, said that the new devices are targeted at edge routers, enterprise and security switches, and data centers. Vitesse said that it has already secured a number of design wins for the new Barrington-II products. MAC (Media Access Controller) chips are used by electronics manufacturers to connect high speed networking products to copper and optical media. MAC chips control the physical layer of the Ethernet networking protocol.
