Vitesse Rolls Out Green Ethernet Chips
Camarillo-based Vitesse Semiconductor announced today that it is rolling out a new line of Ethernet chips, which it says specifically include power saving features. The firm said its new line of EcoEthernet chips allow OEMS to implement power-saving features that exceed the IEEE's 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet standards, including features such as temperature monitoring, smart fan control, and adjustable LED brightness. The firm said that its Gigabit Ethernet ports dissipate well below 400mW, and less than 200mW when in Fast Ethernet speed. The new chips are based on a 65nm, CMOS process.
