Western Digital, IBM In Patent Deal

Irvine-based storage giant Western Digital and IBM said this morning that the two companies are in a patent acquisition and licensing deal, where WD will acquire more than 100 patent assets from IBM, and where the two will cross-license a number of patents. Financial details of the deal were not announced. According to the two, WD has acquired patents in the areas of distributed storage, object storage, and emerging non-volatile memory. WD says it now has a portfolio of more than 10,000 patents and patent applications.
