Western Digital Buys Amplidata

Irvine-based Western Digital said this morning that its subsidiary, HGST, has agreed to acquire object storage software developer Amplidata. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. WD said the move will help the company expand into higher value data storage platforms. Amplidata was venture backed by Big Bang Ventures, Endeavor Vision, Hummingbird Ventures, Intel Capital, Quantum Corp., and Swisscom, and had raised at least $25.0M in funding. Amplidata develops the Himalaya object storage software.
