XPRIZE: 32 Teams Competing For Shell Ocean Discovery Prize

The XPRIZE Foundation, the group which has been organizing prize-based competitions to help advance critical areas of technology to benefit mankind, announced on Thursday that it has 32 teams from 22 countries who are competing for its $7M Shell Ocean Discovery XPRIZE. The prize competition is challenging teams to create ocean technology for rapid, unmanned and high-resolution ocean exploration and discovery. The first phase of the prize competition--which will take three years--is the submission of technical documentation on their proposed solutions, which are due in December; the foundation said its panel of judges will select 25 teams to enter the first round of testing and announce those teams in February of 2017.
