XPRIZE Foundation Names New CEO

Los Angeles-based XPRIZE Foundation, which has been running a series of grand challenges aimed at spurring solutions to some of the world's toughest problems, said today that it has named Marcus Shingles as its new Chief Executive Officer. Former CEO and founder Peter Diamandis remains as Chairman of the company. Shingles was most recently part of Deloitte Consulting's Innovation Group, and also previously served at Kellogg Company, Ernst & Young LLP, and as a startup founder. The foundation did not say why Diamandis is stepping away from the more operational CEO role, however, the foundation has a significant and growing number of competitions it is currently running, including the $30M Google Lunar XPRIZE, the $20M NRG Cosia Carbon XPRIZE, the $15M Global Learning XPRIZE, the $10M Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE, the $7M Shell Ocean Discovery XPRIZE, the $7M Barbara Bush Foundation Adult Literacy XPRIZE and the $5M IBM Watson AI XPRIZE.
